While the educational sessions and speakers are really awesome, one of the favorite parts is the networking, networking and more networking!<\/p>\n<h3>Let\u2019s Count the Ways to Network at Rocks Digital<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Every time you walk into a different session you network with the others in that session<\/li>\n<li>Every time you walk out of a session you networking with those in the corridors<\/li>\n<li>Every meal, every break, every evening \u2013 be there and ready to network<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can <a title=\"Grow Your Network to Grow Your Business: Networking Strategy 101\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rocksdigital.com\/networking-strategy\/\">make new friends, business connections, and new customers<\/a> just by saying \u201chi\u201d to someone you haven\u2019t spoken to before.<\/p>\n<h2>Stories from Attendees that Maximized on their Networking at the 2014 Conference<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>One attendee specifically mentioned afterward how she received great value and insights into herself from one of the speakers privately after the conference<\/li>\n<li>Another attendee met and connected with another attendee at the conference and they become fast friends and running buddies. Often attending VIP events together on the weekends.<\/li>\n<li>Three of the attendees had the opportunity to meet with a long time Twitter friend who travelled from Florida in real life at the conference.<\/li>\n<li>One speaker had the opportunity to network with another speaker and they partnered on a joint training project.<\/li>\n<li>One of the volunteers was hired from one of the speakers for a special project.<\/li>\n<li>One of the speakers met with a big brand while attending the conference and leveraged a sponsorship deal (this brand had courted the conference about a sponsorship, but instead chose to connect with one of the influencer speakers for a long term partnership).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This list of stories about the networking and opportunities that develop from attending conferences like Rocks Digital could go on and on. Prepare to give away a tall stack of business cards, connect with dozens of people on LinkedIn, win a few door prizes, get newly published books autographed, and of course &#8211; walk out the door with invaluable insight into the constantly changing world of social media. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>~ Cece Liekar, The League Lady<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With all these networking opportunities waiting for you now might be a good time for a few networking tips.<\/p>\n<h2>Be Available and Open to Networking<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Send the right signals.<\/strong> Put your technology away and a smile on your face, especially in between sessions and during designated networking events. No one feels comfortable starting a conversation with someone that looks like they are already engaged in one with their electronic gadget.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step out of your comfort zone. <\/strong>When you walk into a room full of people, don\u2019t immediately migrate to the people you met at the last session or that you sat with at lunch. Instead look for someone you haven\u2019t met yet and introduce yourself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep your business cards in your pocket.<\/strong> Many people believe that they have been successful at networking if they have given away all their business cards. Only give your card to someone that asks for it. Networking is not a giant business card exchange. You should have more significant conversations with the people you meet and make a real connection, not just exchange cards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Networking is not about you.<\/strong> Contrary to popular belief, you should be asking more questions about the person you\u2019re talking to than telling them about you and your business. People want to feel like you care about what they are saying and not like you are just waiting for your turn to give your \u201c<a title=\"How to Effectively Share\u00a0Your Sales Message in 30 Seconds\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rocksdigital.com\/building-sales-message\/\">elevator speech<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Networking is about connecting others.<\/strong> Listen to what people are saying\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UNeIb_F8YdY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watch Dean Lindsay<\/a>, author of <em>Cracking the Networking Code <\/em>and\u00a0<em>The Progress Challenge: Working and Winning in a World of Change<\/em>)\u00a0and what current struggles they are facing. Then when you meet someone else that has a solution to that struggle, you can get the two together for mutual benefit. You may think that seems like lot of work for no return for you, but you would be wrong. You have solved the problem of one person and given a potential new customer to another. You have gained 2 new fans of you who will probably take the first opportunity they get to return the favor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Follow up. <\/strong>Networking doesn\u2019t work without the follow up. Send them a quick email saying it was great to meet them and then mention something that you discussed with them. And, if you say you are going to send somebody something or connect them with someone. Do it. And not in 2 or 3 weeks either. <a title=\"Stop Spraying and Praying: Create Meaningful Connections\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rocksdigital.com\/create-meaningful-connections\/\">Follow up<\/a> with them within the 1<sup>st<\/sup> week after the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Lissa and Bernadette\u2019s prior conferences have been the birthplace for many great connections.
