Need Content Generation Ideas? Just Look in the Mirror\u2026<\/h2>\n

As a very experienced (a.k.a. \u201cold\u201d) copywriter and content marketer, I can tell you that one of the best places to start is actually your mirror.<\/p>\n

OK, I\u2019m not saying you need to physically get up and walk to your bathroom mirror. But by taking a good look at yourself, your company\/team, your products\/services, and your industry, you should be able to find inspiration for a variety of content pieces<\/a> to use in your marketing.<\/p>\n

Start Producing \u2013 4 Content Generation How-To\u2019s<\/h3>\n

1. Be the star of your own show.<\/span><\/p>\n

You might have told your story 10,000 times\u00a0\u2013 but that just means there\u2019s a few billion people who haven\u2019t <\/i>heard it.<\/p>\n

Write up a press release on the anniversary of the day you founded your company. Heck, it could be something like \u201cSmith Widgets Celebrates 10 Months of Success\u201d \u2013\u00a0and talk about your growth in that time.<\/p>\n

Turn that press release into a blog post, then share it on your social media accounts. And you\u2019ve got some usable, sharable content.<\/p>\n

Another thought-starter:<\/p>\n

\u2013 An \u201cinterview\u201d with yourself (conducted by your marketing person or a fictional \u201cinterviewer\u201d), talking about your company\u2019s history, growth, news, etc.<\/i><\/p>\n

2. Pump up your team.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether you have two employees or 2,000, there\u2019s always good content to be found among your staff. Plus, it\u2019s a morale booster when you highlight someone and\/or their achievements.<\/p>\n

Maybe a regular \u201cEmployee Spotlight\u201d showcasing employees\u2019 work anniversaries, professional accomplishments, new certifications\/licenses… anything positive you can share is great.<\/p>\n

Pro Tip: Give the showcased employee a printed\/framed copy of the content, and consider having their photo taken professionally for mounting on a building at your location.<\/i><\/p>\n

3. Brag about your products\/services.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not regularly publishing new content<\/a> on your products and services… why not?<\/i>Even if you haven\u2019t introduced any new products or services, you could be writing about the ones you already have.<\/p>\n

Talking about your product line\/services can range from unique features and benefits to case studies or testimonials from satisfied clients.<\/p>\n

And if you do have new products or services to showcase, that\u2019s awesome. Take that information, write it up and run with it!<\/p>\n

4. Examine your industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s always something going on in your industry. (If you don\u2019t agree, you might not be as tuned-in as you should be.)<\/p>\n

That big merger of two leading companies? The latest product innovation that everyone is copying? The new regulations that affect manufacturing or product quality? It\u2019s all gold, Jerry!<\/p>\n

And if you really want to go for the \u201cthought leader\u201d and \u201cinfluencer\u201d titles, take a step back and look at the big picture. Put together a thought piece on the state of the industry and\/or where you think it\u2019s headed in the next 5, 10, 20 or even 50 years.<\/p>\n

For Effective Content Generation, Remember Your Readers<\/h2>\n

From the natural starting point of being the star of your own show<\/i>to the morale-boosting benefits of using an Employee Spotlight feature, and of course, the never-ending changes and fluctuations in your industry (and that\u2019s ANY\u00a0<\/i>industry), you have some great places to start generating usable, quality content<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Remember too that you want your content to be relevant and newsworthy<\/a> \u2013\u00a0so make sure it\u2019s of interest in some way. Think like a journalist and have a solid \u201chook\u201d that will catch a reader\u2019s attention and get them reading.<\/p>\n

Who knows \u2013\u00a0that reader could go from prospect to customer very quickly in this day and age. If you give them a worthwhile reason to read, they\u2019ll see you as a worthwhile option for business. So go ahead, take a look in that mirror \u2013\u00a0and get started!<\/p>\n
