That\u2019s why understanding exactly what you <strong>need<\/strong> \u2013 and how it fits within your budget \u2013 overrides what you may just <strong>want<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Digital Marketing via Website \u2013 Want vs. Need<\/h3>\n<p><strong>You Want<\/strong>: An awesomely cool website with tons of widgets and snazzy features that gets millions of hits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Need<\/strong>: An attractive, user-friendly website that engages visitors and turns prospective customers into leads and sales.<\/p>\n<p>While there\u2019s a lot of things you can add to your website, there\u2019s no substitute for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocksdigital.com\/social-media-content-machine\/\">good solid content<\/a> and a well-thought-out design. User experience doesn\u2019t always mean throwing all the trendy features onto your site; it means a positive interaction with your company and your brand \u2013 one that hopefully leads to interest, engagement, and new customers.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">Social Media Followers &amp; Digital Marketing \u2013 Want vs. Need<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>You Want: <\/strong>100,000 followers on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Need:<\/strong> The right followers on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Every new Tweeter wants to grab up as many followers as possible. Like a cult leader, s\/he is intoxicated with the thought of an army of people waiting for every 140-characters-or-less message from their fearless leader on high. And while having thousands and thousands of followers on Twitter is great for the ego, if they\u2019re not buying from you, they\u2019re not really helping you. It\u2019s much better to focus less on your number of followers and more on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/local-search-made-easy-part-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">turning \u201cfriends\u201d and \u201cfollowers\u201d into \u201ccustomers.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">Digital Marketing using Emails \u2013 Wants vs. Needs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>You Want: <\/strong>Emails that explain in great detail why your company\/product\/service is the best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Need: <\/strong>Emails that are brief with a strong, effective call-to-action.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare wrote that \u201cBrevity is the soul of wit\u201d \u2013 and he\u2019s still right 400 years later. In today\u2019s world of overstuffed email inboxes, the concept of \u201ctl:dr\u201d (that\u2019s \u201ctoo long, didn\u2019t read\u201d) is still relevant. Getting someone to open an email is the trickiest part, so if you\u2019re lucky enough to get them to read your email, make it quick. Get to your \u201cask\u201d and get out. Focus on persuading them to visit your site \u2013 or better yet, go directly to a product page where they can purchase from you.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">Digital Marketing via Blog \u2013 Wants vs. Needs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>You Want: <\/strong>A blog that gets millions of viewers and shares.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Need: <\/strong>A blog that attracts the right viewers. (Shares are nice, but you can promote your blog via other means.)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the same trap as the \u201cFollowers\u201d item above. Getting caught up in the number of readers and subscribers is a mistake, because while they may be your loyal readers, you\u2019d rather have them as loyal customers. Not to say that \u201cthought leadership\u201d and being viewed as an industry expert are bad things; it\u2019s just that those things might not lead to actual sales.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">Banner Ads and Digital Marketing \u2013 Wants vs. Needs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>You Want: <\/strong>Banner ads that use innovative technology and win creative awards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You Need: <\/strong>Banner ads that get people\u2019s attention and clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Just like in the world of print advertising, a creative concept doesn\u2019t necessarily mean an effective concept. You want to grab attention and if possible, get them to click. That\u2019s about all you can hope for with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/can-bing-google-banner-ads-successful\/75505\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">banner <\/a>ad, since click-through rates on display ads are roughly 2% \u2013 6%. So, if you\u2019re lucky enough to get a click, pat yourself on the back!<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it\u2019s a common-sense thing.
