Look back: have holiday marketing efforts been a part of your strategy, or just a holiday from marketing?<\/p>\n<h2>5 Reasons to Ramp Up Your Holiday Marketing<\/h2>\n<p>Traditionally, marketing efforts \u201cslow down\u201d during spring break\/Easter break, summer vacations, Thanksgiving and the December holiday season \u2014 unless you\u2019re in retail, of course.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cOnce again, we come to the Holiday Season \u2014 a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.\u201d <\/em><\/strong>\u2014 Dave Barry<\/p>\n<p>With those last two holidays in mind, many marketers don\u2019t even bother planning any tactics during November and December. Whether you\u2019re going to do more or less during these busy months, you\u2019ll want to take a look at these five things every marketer needs to consider during the holidays:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">1. Competitors cutting back on marketing is a golden opportunity for your own holiday marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Any time your competition is out of sight and out of mind for your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocksdigital.com\/developing-personas-target-audience\/\">target audience<\/a>, you have the chance to grab their attention. And let\u2019s be real, even the most committed family members still do work-related things on their smartphones during holiday gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>Few of us completely \u201cdisconnect\u201d \u2014 so why not reach out? You never know when a prospective customer, full of holiday cheer, might read your email or social post and decide to learn more about you.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">2. Budget priorities change during this time of year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>From bonuses and raises to holiday parties and bills due by December 31, end-of-year costs can add up. Plus, with next year\u2019s budget plans staring people in the face, budgets can become a fearsome opponent.<\/p>\n<p>So maybe you should develop some special offers, discounts, referral rewards programs, or any other kind of cost-saving opportunity. You just might be perceived as an empathetic friend or even a hero \u2014 as well as someone worthy of a new customer.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Your holiday marketing might help people deal with the added stress of the season.<\/h3>\n<p>Many people are dealing with a lot during this time of year, especially on a personal level. They\u2019re shopping for presents, preparing for family visits, traveling through crowded freeways or train stations or airports, etc. How can you help them?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps you\u2019ve already made plans to help with special savings offers, like we mentioned in #2. But what can you do beyond financial incentives? Here are some thought-starters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Something fun (and silly) like adding a page to your website with a holiday-themed game \u2014 remember Elf Bowling?<\/li>\n<li>If you have a physical location, hold an informal \u201copen house\u201d with free refreshments \u2014 and maybe even a masseuse giving 5-minute massages\/shoulder rubs \u2014 providing a much-needed \u201cescape\u201d for your guests.<\/li>\n<li>Or keep it simple, with a cheerful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/5-digital-alternatives-paper-christmas-cards\/146492\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personalized email message with holiday greetings<\/a> to lift their spirits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">4. It\u2019s the season of giving. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s definitely a good time to start new charitable efforts or increase your existing ones. There are so many great causes out there \u2014 whether it\u2019s local, regional, national or global \u2014 that it might be hard to narrow it down! A charity that\u2019s related to your industry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/how-to-tailor-blog-content-for-local-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">your community,<\/a> or something personal (like a health issue that you or a loved one has dealt with) is always a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>And give yourself a little credit for doing something nice \u2014 do a little PR for yourself! Letting your audiences know that you\u2019re committed to helping the less fortunate helps to build your brand in a very positive way.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">5. Understand that there are a LOT of holidays this time of year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Of course, Christmas is the most commonly celebrated holiday, but there are others to consider as well \u2014 especially if your target audience is more international. Here\u2019s a list of some of the holidays that take place every December:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Christmas Day (Christian)<\/li>\n<li>Hanukkah is usually in December, but goes by the Hebrew calendar (Jewish)<\/li>\n<li>Kwanzaa (African-American)<\/li>\n<li>Boxing Day (Australian, Canadian, English, Irish \u2013 secular)<\/li>\n<li>Three Kings Day\/Epiphany (Christian)<\/li>\n<li>Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexican, Catholic)<\/li>\n<li>Lucia Day (Sweden, Norway, Finland \u2013 Christian)<\/li>\n<li>Omisoka (Japanese New Year\u2019s Eve)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the vast majority of people agree it&#8217;s not offensive to say \u201cMerry Christmas,\u201d it&#8217;s very much appreciated when you acknowledge other religions and cultures.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"callout\">Wrapping It Up<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During this joyous season simply focus on giving. With savings opportunities and discounts, fun events, and charitable seasonal needs such as gift and toy drives, be there! And stay in front of customers to say that you\u2019re here for them.
