Several years ago I wrote an article entitled \u201cAre You Thankful or Thinkful<\/a>?<\/em>\u201d Please go read it. Both this article and the earlier one should be implemented hand-in-hand.<\/p>\n

Today I want to talk with you about Thinksgiving. That\u2019s right, today we are going to explore \u201cThinks\u201d and \u201cGiving.\u201d Don\u2019t get me wrong, being thankful is very important, and you should be thankful every day.<\/p>\n

First \u2026 my definitions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanksgiving<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One day set aside each year that most spend with family and friends eating way too much food, laughing and having a good time, while being thankful for God, one another, and their worldly possessions.<\/p>\n

Thinksgiving<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Every day \u2013 that\u2019s right, 7 days a week \u2013 in which you have the opportunity to think about how you can help others and then take the action necessary to give. This giving can be of your time, talent, energy and sometimes money (if that is what you wish to give)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get into the meat and you\u2019ll see what I mean. (Pardon the pun; since it\u2019s Thanksgiving I can\u2019t help myself.)<\/em><\/p>\n

T<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Think about others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Make a conscious effort daily to think about someone besides yourself and your needs.<\/p>\n

H<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Help others to succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Find out what others are struggling with and offer your help. It\u2019s that simple.<\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigate don\u2019t assume.<\/span><\/p>\n

Put out the extra effort necessary to investigate a situation and then offer the help someone really needs.<\/p>\n

N<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No is no.<\/span><\/p>\n

Take no for an answer. Opinions are great, but not always requested or necessary.<\/p>\n

K<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Knowledge is power.<\/span><\/p>\n

Learn something new each day and share the knowledge with others later.<\/p>\n

S<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Share what you know.<\/span><\/p>\n

You are _____ old and you have _____ experience in the world. Share these experiences with others.<\/p>\n

G<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Grow others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just like you water plants to grow, grow people. Add patience, encouragement, friendship and a listening ear generously.<\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Intentions are not action.<\/span><\/p>\n

How many times have you intended to do _____ for someone and didn\u2019t? Stop intending. Start acting. It\u2019s easy.<\/p>\n

V<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Victory is for all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice I didn\u2019t say vicious. Things like taking credit for a team success is vicious. Share the victory. More than one can have the same successes.<\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Inquire how to serve.<\/span><\/p>\n

Patty Farmer always asks her connections \u201cHow can I serve you?<\/em>\u201d This serving attitude helps others, and in turn gets others asking how they can serve someone else.<\/p>\n

N<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No is not always no.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, no is still no, but sometimes, no means \u201cnot right now.\u201d Identify which you are hearing, and act accordingly.<\/p>\n

G<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Give forgiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remembering what someone did wrong is easy, instead take the high road and forgive. It\u2019s good for you and for them.<\/p>\n

The simple fact is you can say \u201cThank You\u201d every day in your actions by celebrating \u201cThinksgiving.\u201d And many\u00a0likely do. If you do, keep it up, if you don\u2019t, start TODAY!<\/p>\n
